MPs are not diplomats, They hold service passports – Al Farouk Al Wahab on the arrest of a Ghanaian MP in the Netherlands

International relations expert and Political commentator Al Farouk Al Wahab has stated that Members of Parliament are not diplomats and therefore do not automatically enjoy diplomatic immunity abroad.

Speaking on Kessben FM while reacting to the reported arrest of Ghanaian MP Ohene Kwame Frimpong in the Netherlands, Al Hawab explained that most MPs travel with service passports and not diplomatic passports.

According to him, diplomatic passports are usually reserved for high-ranking MPs, government officials, diplomats, and certain state representatives assigned to official international duties.

He noted that possessing a service passport does not exempt an individual from the laws of another country, stressing that every citizen must comply with international regulations regardless of political status.

Al Farouk Al Wahab further urged the public to avoid misconceptions surrounding diplomatic privileges and called for calm as details surrounding the incident continue to emerge.
