Medical Negligence: It could be your family member – Hussein Ibrahim hit out at lazy Doctors and Nurses

National Democratic Congress communications team member Hussein Ibrahim has strongly condemned what he described as negligence and poor attitudes by some doctors and nurses in Ghana’s healthcare system during a discussion on Kessben FM.
Speaking on the station’s morning programme, Hussein Ibrahim expressed concern over increasing complaints from patients and families who allege delays, lack of urgency, and unprofessional conduct at some public health facilities.
According to him, medical negligence should not be treated lightly because “it could be your family member” who may suffer the consequences of delayed treatment or poor healthcare delivery.
He stressed that while many healthcare workers continue to serve diligently under difficult conditions, there are some individuals in the profession whose attitude toward patients undermines public confidence in the health sector.
Hussein Ibrahim called on health authorities to strengthen supervision and accountability within healthcare facilities while encouraging medical professionals to uphold compassion and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
He also appealed to government agencies and hospital administrators to improve working conditions and logistics for healthcare workers, noting that challenges within the system should not become an excuse for avoidable deaths or suffering.
Medical negligence continues to be a major topic of public debate in Ghana, with legal experts and health stakeholders urging stronger enforcement of professional standards and patient protection laws.
