NPP Communication Director Aspirant Slams Dr. Mary Awusi Over Remarks About Samira Bawumia

An aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communication Director position, Gordon Assre Bediako, has launched a sharp criticism against Dr. Mary Awusi, describing her as “uncultured, ill-mannered, and disrespectful” over her recent comments about some Church of Pentecost clergy.

Speaking on Kessben Maakye show, he referenced a comment she previously made against former Second Lady Samira Bawumia that she is a wicked woman.

Speaking on the issue, Bediako accused Dr. Awusi of using inappropriate and offensive language, stating that society has evolved in the way it addresses people, especially those with deformities or disabilities.

“In the past, there were certain ways people referred to individuals with deformities, but as civilization unfolds, society changes. He cited that in the run up to the general election, Dr. Awusi said she could see some autistic elements in Dr. Bawumia.

Unfortunately, she has not changed with time,” he said.

Bediako further condemned Dr. Awusi for allegedly referring to Samira Bawumia as a “wicked woman,” describing the remark as unacceptable and contrary to the standards expected of public officials.

He argued that under the code of conduct established at the Presidency, Dr. Awusi’s actions amount to a serious breach that should not go unpunished.

“According to the code of conduct set at the Presidency, Dr. Awusi has woefully faulted and must be dealt with,” he asserted.

The NPP communicator also questioned the sincerity of Dr. Awusi’s apology, insisting it lacked genuine remorse.

“Even her apology was not genuine. If she cannot abide by the President’s code of conduct for his appointees, no one can force her—but it is only a matter of time before consequences follow,” he added.

The comments have sparked renewed public debate about standards of conduct among political appointees and the importance of respectful public discourse in Ghana’s political landscape.
