Galamsey Is an Existential Threat” – Informer Editor Andy Kankam Backs “Shoot to Kill,” Slams Delayed State Action

Managing Editor of _The Informer_, Andy Kankam, has issued a scathing critique of Ghana’s response to illegal mining, calling galamsey an “existential threat” and endorsing tougher enforcement measures.
Speaking on galamsey at Kessben Maakye show, Kankam recalled his stance on executive action. _“I don’t need a soothsayer, that is why some months ago, I disagreed with the Prez. for saying he’s waiting for National Security briefing less he will not declare a state of emergency,”_ he said.
According to Kankam, President Mahama also admitted inclusion of party faithful from both franks.
Kankam expressed frustration at the scale of the crisis and asserted, Galamsey is an existential threat, people are doing it blatantly, I think that we must have that political to deal with it that is why
I was so disappointed in Nana Addo for saying he will place his presidency on the line.
“All of us in the media decided to fight this canker head-on but Nana Addo kept clearing suspects even under video footages ahead of investigations, Kankam said.
Calling for hardline tactics, he declared, I would support ‘shoot to kill’ approach because those involved in the illegal mining are mass murderers just to make money for themselves at the detriment of the mass population.
Additionally he noted, our waterbodies, farmlands, forests and unborn babies according to record are all under threat.
While not advocating a ban, he urged responsibility. _“We cannot stop mining but we must be responsible with it,”_ he concluded.
