Visa Waivers “Build Ghana’s Credibility,” But Ministry Must Educate Public on Terms- UG Professor

Associate Professor Daniel Dramani Sunyehzi of the University of Ghana says visa waiver agreements offer Ghana both practical and reputational gains, but stressed that public education on their terms is critical.

In a zoom interview on Kessben TV’s Digest show, he explained that, usually some of these negotiations are done gradually.

He argued that visa-free access has long-term value and an advantage to be traveling to these countries for either business, educational or tourism purposes.

According to Professor Sunyehzi , the visa waiver also adds up to one credibility and gradually we shall get to the top.

In spite of this we still need bilateral agreement to enhance free movement in these countries, Prof. Sunyehzi said, adding that this is an opportunity for Ghanaians to take business advantage and explore.

The professor urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to step up communication, saying, the Ministry must broadcast this news on Radio, Television and in Newspapers so people would be abreast with it.

Crucially, he wants citizens informed on limits. They should also let them know how long one can stay in a particular country without abusing the agreement, he added, warning against misuse that could jeopardize future deals.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has not yet responded to calls for a nationwide sensitization campaign on visa waiver conditions.
