40,000 people so far applied for the 7,000 available teaching positions

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has revealed that over 40,000 applicants applied through the teacher recruitment portal for only 7,000 available positions.
Speaking on the sidelines of the launch of e-Learning Africa, Mr. Iddrisu explained that although Ghana is experiencing a shortage of teachers, financial clearance was obtained to recruit only 7,000 due to budget limitations from the Ministry of Finance.
He noted that the recruitment process was conducted transparently and assured that the most qualified candidates would be selected from the large pool of applicants.
According to him, the application portal was subsequently closed after reaching 40,000 submissions to prevent system overload and ensure proper processing.
“If resources were available, we would have recruited up to 50,000 teachers nationwide, but we are constrained by budgetary limitations. The Ministry of Finance has approved recruitment for only 7,000 teachers,” he said.
Mr. Iddrisu added that the selection process will be carefully conducted to ensure fairness and merit-based appointment of successful applicants.
