Argentina overtake Germany in Fifa rankings despite Copa defeat

Losing on penalties to Chile on Saturday has not prevented Gerardo Martino’s men from overtaking the World Cup winners at the top of the list

Argentina have leapfrogged Germany to take the No.1 in the Fifa rankings, despite their Copa America final defeat to Chile.
Chile’s penalty shootout win over Gerardo Martino’s men did nothing to prevent the World Cup runners-up going top of the list, while Belgium round off the top three, with Colombia and the Netherlands fourth and fifth respectively.
Meanwhile, Wales have risen to 10th in the list – a new all-time high for the country.
Wales’ previous ranking of 21 was a previous record ranking, and they will now be seeded for the World Cup qualifying draw later in July, moving above Spain, who are 11th, and Italy, who have tumbled to 17th.
England sit a place above Wales, but are behind sixth-placed Brazil, seventh-placed Portugal and eighth-placed Romania.
