Keane stars as Gerrard unveiled, Orlando draw

Los Angeles Galaxy introduced new signing Steven Gerrard to their crowd on Independence Day, but Robbie Keane re-asserted his star billing with a hat-trick in a 4-0 win over Toronto FC.
An early penalty from Keane opened the scoring and he struck again four minutes before a half-time interval during which Gerrard was presented on the field and told the crowd: “I can’t wait to get my boots on and play in front of you guys.”
He will be eligible to do that from 18 July, and the long-serving former Liverpool and England captain will do so targeting silverware in MLS.
“I’ve been in Liverpool all my life,” he said. “But this is a good place for me to come and enjoy my football, and hopefully add a trophy to my collection.”
Keane, not to be upstaged, completed his hat-trick on the hour helped by a poor back-pass before Sebastian Lletget added a late fourth.
Kaka scored but was then sent off as Orlando City drew 1-1 with Real Salt Lake. The former AC Milan star struck five minutes in but after Jaime had equalised, the clean-cut Brazilian uncharacteristically trod on Javier Morales and was dismissed just before half-time. RSL were unable to take advantage and were held to their eighth draw of the season.
Orlando’s point sees them third in the Eastern Conference, level on points with both Columbus Crew and the New England Revolution. Columbus enjoyed a 2-1 win over New York Red Bulls, recovering from Anatole Abang’s early goal with an Ethan Finlay brace.
The Revs went down 3-0 to FC Dallas with goals from Mauro Diaz nine minutes in and Fabian Castillo and Michael Barrios in the second half. David Villa scored twice as New York City FC won 2-1 against Montreal Impact, who had drawn level at 1-1 with Ignacio Piatti’s penalty.
Colorado Rapids beat Vancouver Whitecaps by the same scoreline, Vicente Sanchez and Kevin Doyle on target either side of Kekuta Manneh’s reply.
