President Mahama unveils STEM schools to boost education in Savannah Region

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to establish new Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) schools in the Savannah Region as part of efforts to strengthen education and equip young people with skills for the future.
The President made the announcement while addressing the 50th anniversary celebration of the Gonjaland Youth Association in Buipe, where he reaffirmed government’s commitment to expanding access to quality education across underserved communities.
According to President Mahama, the proposed STEM schools will be located in Tinga and Busunu, and are expected to provide students with practical, innovation-driven learning opportunities that align with global trends.
“Education is the bridge between where we are and where we aspire to be,” he stated, emphasizing the critical role of education in national development and youth empowerment.
In addition to the STEM initiative, President Mahama revealed plans to expand infrastructure in Senior High Schools across the region and upgrade selected Category B schools to Category A status to improve learning conditions and outcomes.
He noted that these interventions are part of a broader strategy to reduce educational disparities and ensure that students in the Savannah Region are not left behind in the country’s development agenda.
The President urged students and young people to take advantage of the opportunities that will come with the new schools, stressing that investment in education remains key to unlocking the region’s full potential.
