The Member of Parliament for Dormaa Central, John Kwaku Adu, has strongly condemned a recent violent clash involving students, describing the incident as “barbaric” and deeply troubling.
Speaking on the matter at Kessben Maakye this morning, the lawmaker said it would not be possible for the headmaster to immediately produce the students involved, explaining that the situation had already been taken over by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
According to him, once such incidents occur, emotions often run high, leading to reactions that may not address the root causes of the problem. He cautioned against what he described as “restless” handling of the issue without proper consideration of due process. He then urged authorities to use this incident as a base to deal rootlessly with the foundation of such acts.
The MP noted that although there have been several student clashes in the past, this particular case stands out due to its severity. He revealed that, the students allegedly aimed big stones at the victim an act he said could have resulted in fatal consequences.
“This one is highly criminal,” he stressed, pointing to the potential danger posed by the action.
John Kwaku Adu also indicated that the timeline given to the headmaster was too short for him to comply, questioning how he could reasonably respond within 24 hours under the circumstances.
While condemning the act, the MP attributed part of the blame to societal influences, suggesting that negative external factors may be shaping student behaviour.
He emphasized that inter-college competitions are meant to unearth talents and promote healthy rivalry, not to breed criminal tendencies among students.
The Dormaa Central legislator further stated that he does not engage in comparisons when matters of national interest are at stake, urging stakeholders to focus on addressing the issue constructively.
