If CocoBod were doing things right, the Cocoa price should not have been reduced in Ghana – Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, Former Suame MP

Former Suame Member of Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, has criticized the recent cocoa price reduction, stating that the move would not have been necessary if the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) had managed its affairs effectively.
Speaking on Kessben FM with host Wofa Kofi Appiah, Mr. Mensah Bonsu argued that proper financial management and strategic planning within COCOBOD could have shielded cocoa farmers from the impact of a price slash.
According to him, cocoa remains the backbone of Ghana’s economy, and farmers must be protected from policies that negatively affect their livelihoods.
He suggested that inefficiencies and structural challenges within the cocoa sector may have contributed to the decision to reduce prices.
Hon. Mensah Bonsu stressed that farmers invest significant time and resources into cocoa production and deserve stable and rewarding returns.
He called for greater transparency and accountability in the management of the cocoa sector to ensure sustainable growth and farmer welfare.
