Ghana drifting into partisanship” — Kwame Owusu Danso raises alarm over EC dismissal petition outcome

Former running mate of the Movement for Change, Kwame Owusu Danso, has commended the Chief Justice for dismissing petition to remove the Electoral Commissioner Jane Mensah warning the country could be sliding into dangerous political partisanship.
Speaking on the Digest Show on Kessben TV, he acknowledged that the Constitution allows the President to appoint individuals to public institutions but stressed that such powers must not undermine the independence of state bodies.
He referenced Article 146 of the Constitution of Ghana , noting it guarantees the autonomy of constitutional office holders and should not be used as a political weapon.
Mr. Danso also cited the removal of former EC Chairperson Charlotte Osei, arguing that although the decision was widely known as politically motivated, it did not justify a precedent where minor administrative errors could become grounds for removing institutional heads.
According to him, tolerating such practices risks eroding public trust in governance.
He cautioned that Ghana is gradually moving onto a path of deep political polarisation, urging authorities to protect institutional neutrality and uphold democratic principles to safeguard the nation’s stability.
