LPG General Secretary defends Jean Mensa, criticises petition against CJ

The General Secretary of the Liberal Party of Ghana, Jerry Owusu Appiah, has weighed into the ongoing public debate over petitions involving the judiciary and the Electoral Commission, defending the conduct of electoral officials while accusing political actors of pushing propaganda.
According to him, past events involving former Electoral Commission Chairperson Charlotte Osei and her deputies demonstrated that there were genuine administrative concerns within the Commission at the time.
He argued that current Electoral Commission Chairperson Jean Mensa played a key role in safeguarding public funds, claiming her leadership helped prevent financial losses during the 2020 general elections.
Mr. Appiah further alleged that narratives surrounding the controversy were largely driven by the National Democratic Congress political machinery to discredit the EC boss citing NDC national chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia as taking a leading role in such agenda.
He also criticised President Mahama’s decision to forward the petitions to the Chief Justice, describing it as an unnecessary burden on the state and a misuse of taxpayers’ money.
He therefore called on the public not to applaud Prez . Mahama’s actions that, in his view, undermine confidence in governance and judicial processes.
