New Cocoa Producer Price Set at GH¢41,392 Per Tonne,GH¢2,587 per bag – Finance Minister

The Government of Ghana has announced a new cocoa producer price of GH¢41,392 per tonne and GH¢2,587 per bag for the remainder of the 2025/2026 crop season, in a move aimed at cushioning farmers from the impact of declining global cocoa prices.

The announcement was made on Thursday, February 12, 2026, by the Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson at a press briefing . The committee assessed the challenges facing the sector following a sharp decline in the world market price of cocoa from an average of $7,200 per tonne to $4,100 per tonne.

“Effective today, Thursday, 12 February 2026, the new producer price for the remainder of the 2025/2026 crop season will now be GH¢41,392 per tonne and GH¢2,587 per bag,” Dr. Forson announced.

The Finance Minister explained that the revised price represents 90 percent of the achieved gross FOB price of $4,200 per tonne, ensuring that farmers receive a fair return despite global market fluctuations.

“This measure has become necessary to reflect the reality of the world market price of cocoa, ensure the injection of immediate liquidity for expedited payment of farmers, and guarantee the sustainability of our cocoa sector,” he said.

Dr. Forson emphasized that the move is part of a broader series of reforms designed to protect farmers’ interests and strengthen the financial position of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).

“Cocoa has always been the mainstay of our economy, and we wish to assure farmers that these reforms will protect their interests. We strongly believe this will transform the industry,” he added.

The government’s decision comes amid ongoing efforts to restructure COCOBOD’s finances, revive local cocoa processing, and implement a new financing model to support sustainable growth in the sector.
