Kumasi Trotro Drivers overprice fares as if they want to use one day to break even on the price they bought their vehicle – Passengers cry

Passengers in Kumasi have expressed frustration over what they describe as excessive transport fares charged by Trotro drivers, accusing them of overpricing fares as if they intend to recover the full cost of their vehicles in a single day.

Speaking on Kessben TV, commuters complained that fare increments are often arbitrary and disproportionate, placing a heavy burden on low-income earners, students, and traders who rely on public transport daily.

According to the passengers, while they understand the challenges drivers face, including fuel prices, maintenance costs, and taxes, the current fares are becoming unbearable. Some commuters argued that the situation reflects a lack of effective regulation and enforcement of approved transport fares in the city.

The aggrieved passengers have therefore called on the Ashanti Regional Minister and relevant transport authorities to intervene. They are urging government officials to engage driver unions, enforce fare guidelines, and protect the public from what they see as exploitative practices.
