Afenyo-Markin is just bitter; I’m ready to face Parliament – Sammy Gyamfi

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has dismissed criticism from Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin as driven by “bitterness,” insisting he is ready to appear before Parliament to account for the Board’s operations.

According to Mr Gyamfi, Mr Afenyo-Markin and other New Patriotic Party (NPP) figures have raised concerns about GoldBod without providing specific allegations requiring a response.

He, however, distinguished the Minority Leader’s criticism from that of the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Economy Committee, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, whom he said raises substantive issues without making them personal.

Mr Gyamfi challenged Mr Afenyo-Markin to provide specific evidence of wrongdoing at GoldBod rather than making broad allegations about problems within the institution.

He assured that he was prepared to appear before any relevant parliamentary committee to respond to allegations concerning the operations of the GoldBod.

“As for Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, I can take some of the things he says seriously because they are not personal. Afenyo Markin is just being personal. He’s a bitter friend, so I can understand. You can see the hatred and the bitterness in his voice,” he said during a Space conversation on X on Sunday, August 9.

Mr Gyamfi further challenged the Public Accounts Committee to summon him if there are allegations that funds are being siphoned from GoldBod, insisting that Parliament has the appropriate mechanisms to scrutinise the institution.

“If he wants me in Parliament, I’m saying they should invite me tomorrow. I am ready. Economic Committee, Finance Committee, Lands and Mines Committee, and they should bring media people and publishers,” he stated.
