NPP Presidential Primaries: Dr. Kenneth Klutse Attributes 2024 Defeat to Candidate Selection

The launch of Dr. Kenneth Klutse’s book, PHD Politics, has sparked intense debate within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the presidential primaries approach on January 31. Speaking at the launch, Dr. Klutse attributed the party’s 2024 general election loss to the presidential candidate presented to the electorate, emphasizing the need for the party to listen to the grassroots.
“The NDC didn’t gain significant votes; our supporters simply stayed home,” Dr. Klutse noted. “The lesson is clear: the party must listen to the people and present a candidate who resonates with them.” He stressed that voter apathy among NPP supporters was the decisive factor in the election outcome.
Dr. Klutse explained that PHD Politics stands for ‘Patriotism, Honesty, and Discipline’, values he considers essential for effective national leadership. He described patriotism as loving one’s country enough to prioritize its well-being, honesty as a foundation for trust, and discipline as the backbone of society.
During his remarks, Dr. Klutse emphasized that a disciplined leadership culture would naturally influence the broader population. He wrote PHD Politics to preserve his ideas as a lasting legacy, inspired by Kennedy Ohene Agyapong’s leadership philosophy.
“Politicians speak, but their ideas are often lost,” Dr. Klutse said. “I wrote this book for Ghana, so future generations know someone tried to reset the nation’s mindset.” He urged party delegates and the wider electorate to look beyond rhetoric when assessing leadership, emphasizing that the principles outlined in PHD Politics aim to guide Ghana’s political future.
