There Is Only One Ghana — President Mahama Calls for National Unity in New Year Message
President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to rise above political divisions and work together in the national interest, declaring that the country belongs to everyone regardless of party affiliation.
Delivering his New Year Message to the Nation, the President stressed that Ghana’s progress depends on unity, tolerance and collective effort rather than partisan rivalry.
“Whether you voted for me or not, whether you supported the NDC or not, we are all Ghanaians, and this reset is for all of us,” he said.
In one of the most striking lines of his address, President Mahama stated plainly that the nation cannot be divided along party lines.
“There is no NPP Ghana. There is no CPP Ghana or NDC Ghana. There is only one Ghana. The one our forebears fought for and shed their blood to give us our freedom.”
Reject Politics of Division
The President urged political actors, supporters and citizens to embrace a healthier form of democratic competition grounded in respect and national interest.
“Let us reject the politics of division and embrace the patriotism of nation-building,” he appealed.
“Let us disagree without being disagreeable. Let us compete in the marketplace of ideas without treating our opponents as enemies.”
According to him, the challenges facing the nation — economic reforms, social development, job creation and governance renewal — are too important to be undermined by hatred, insults and entrenched partisan hostility.
Shared Destiny
President Mahama reminded citizens that despite differences in political opinion, ethnicity or background, Ghanaians share a common future.
“We are one people with a shared destiny,” he said. “The challenges we face are too urgent, and the opportunities before us are too precious, for us to waste time and energy on needless conflict.”
He said his Reset Agenda is designed to benefit all citizens, not only supporters of the ruling party.
Hope for the Future
The President reaffirmed his belief in a united and prosperous Ghana where every citizen feels included.
“I see a Ghana where hard work is rewarded, where integrity is celebrated, and where our young people can build their future here at home,” he said, urging citizens to enter 2026 with “confidence, determination and faith in Ghana.”
Mahama ended his message with wishes of peace and progress for the nation, praying that the New Year strengthens national cohesion.
