President Mahama Outlines Key National Priorities for 2026, Promises Acceleration of Reforms

President John Dramani Mahama has outlined an ambitious programme of national priorities for 2026, promising to accelerate reforms in education, healthcare, agriculture, energy, housing and governance as part of his Reset Agenda.

In his New Year Message to the Nation, the President said the past year had laid “the foundation” for Ghana’s recovery and transformation — and 2026 would focus on expanding these gains.

“As satisfying as our achievements of 2025 are, they are but the foundation. The architecture of the Ghana we want must now be built on this foundation,” he said.

“In 2026, we shall accelerate and expand.”

Education: Digital Classrooms and Equal Access

President Mahama said government would continue rolling out technology-driven learning to improve education delivery nationwide.

“Every child deserves a world-class education. We will continue digitalising our schools and ensure every classroom has the tools for 21st-century learning,” he stated.

Universal Health Coverage to Be Operationalised

The President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding health access through Free Primary Health Care.

“We shall operationalise Universal Health Coverage through the Free Primary Health Care Programme, ensuring that no Ghanaian is denied care due to inability to pay,” he said.

He added that support systems would be enhanced for patients with chronic conditions.

“Through the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, we will stretch a hand of support to our people suffering from non-communicable diseases.”

Food Security and Agricultural Transformation

Mahama said the government would continue pushing Ghana toward food self-sufficiency.

“We shall make Ghana food self-sufficient and transform agriculture from subsistence to a thriving commercial enterprise through mechanisation, value addition, and market access,” he noted.

Renewable Energy Expansion

The President also highlighted a national energy transition agenda.

“We are working to achieve a 30% share of renewable energy in our national energy mix, reducing costs and protecting the environment,” he announced.

Affordable Housing Push

Government housing plans will be driven through partnerships with the private sector.

“We shall deliver social housing units through public-private partnerships,” he assured Ghanaians.

Zero-Tolerance Anti-Corruption Campaign

Mahama vowed to intensify the anti-corruption drive.

“We shall intensify the fight against corruption with no sacred cows. Every cedi belongs to the people and must be accounted for,” he said.

Constitutional Reforms Back on Agenda

The President confirmed that key constitutional reforms would be implemented.

“We will implement the recommendations of the Constitution Review Committee to make our 1992 Constitution an even greater guide for the consolidation of our democracy,” he pledged.

Citizens Called to Support National Reset

The President stressed that nation-building required partnership between government and citizens.

“Governments do not build nations alone. They do that with the citizenry,” he reminded Ghanaians, calling on the youth, entrepreneurs, civil society, traditional leaders and the diaspora to support the Reset Agenda.

President Mahama concluded on a message of unity and hope.

“We are one people with a shared destiny… Let us move forward with confidence, determination, and faith — faith in God, faith in Ghana, and faith in ourselves.”
