From Dirt to Pitch: How Chirapatre’s “Triple-Threat” Boxing Day Redefined Community Service
Article By Michael Ofosu-Afriyie, Kumasi

While much of the world spent Boxing Day in relaxation, the people of Chirapatre were in the streets, led by their traditional leaders in a powerful display of what “modern royalty” looks like.
Under the leadership of the Chief of Chirapatre, Nana Offe Kusi Wiredu II, the community successfully blended environmental sanitation, social welfare, and competitive sport into a single day of transformative action.
Leadership Without the Robes:
The day began not with a ceremony, but with a broom.
In a departure from purely ceremonial roles, Nana Wiredu II, alongside the Nkosuohene, Nana Ankoma Nyame, and royals from the Manhyia Palace, led a massive clean-up exercise.
The atmosphere was electric, fueled by a live brass band that turned the labor into a celebration.
Supported by the Ghana Fire Service, the team desilted gutters and cleared the stretch from the Roman Catholic Church to the main cemetery road.
Proving that his leadership is as much about people as it is about infrastructure, the Chief took time during the exercise to personally visit the homes of the elderly and the bedridden, offering prayers and ensuring no one felt forgotten during the festive season.
Safety Net for the Vulnerable:
As the morning dust settled, the Palace transformed into a hub of philanthropy. Sitting in state, Nana Wiredu II hosted over 100 widows and elderly residents.
This was not a mere “handout” but a targeted effort to provide dignity to the vulnerable. Each guest departed with:
Bags of rice and live chickens for festive meals.
High-quality wax prints, ensuring the recipients could celebrate the season in style.
“Fabi Boys” Dominate on the Pitch:
The afternoon shifted the energy to the local football pitch for the annual Christmas Gala.
The tournament, sponsored by Davita School Complex and DBS Industries, saw four teams battle for supremacy.
After two nail-biting semi-finals decided by penalty shootouts, the Fabi Boys emerged as the undisputed kings of the pitch. They delivered a masterclass in the grand finale, defeating Davita School Complex with a commanding 3–0 victory to lift the trophy.
Vision for the Future:
Closing the day’s events, the leadership issued a dual call to action.
Nana Wiredu II appealed to the Chirapatre diaspora, urging those living abroad to align with his developmental agenda.
“Collaboration is our greatest tool,” the Chief noted, emphasizing that the youth and the vulnerable remain his administration’s top priorities.
Nkosuohene:
The Nkosuohene, Nana Ankoma Nyame, added a sobering note of guidance for the younger generation.
While praising their hard work during the clean-up, he warned against the “idle hands” of promiscuity and waywardness, urging the youth to channel their energy into self-sufficiency and vocational honor.
