Ghanaian workers spend a chunk of their earnings on food, Measures needed to bridge the gap – Wofa Kofi Appiah

Wofa Kofi Appiah, co-host of the popular morning show Kessben Maakye on Kessben FM, has raised concerns about the increasing portion of income Ghanaian workers spend on food.
According to him, the rising cost of basic food items has placed enormous pressure on the average worker, leaving little room for savings or other essential expenses.
Speaking on the show, Wofa Kofi Appiah noted that many workers now spend a significant chunk of their monthly earnings on feeding alone, a situation he described as unsustainable for both households and the wider economy. He explained that when food prices climb faster than wages, workers are pushed into financial hardship, limiting their ability to invest, save, or plan for long-term stability.
He called for effective measures and policies to address the issue, including improved agricultural support, better market regulation, and deliberate efforts to reduce the cost of living.
According to him, bridging this gap is crucial to ensuring that workers can live decently without sacrificing their financial well-being.
