Ghana’s Governance Forum Tackles Transition Challenges

The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Ghana has hosted its 2025 Governance Forum, themed “Governance Amidst Transition”, highlighting the importance of agile and responsive governance approaches in the face of significant economic transformation, technological progress, and evolving societal norms.

Speaking at the event, IIA Ghana President, Ebenezer Kwadwo Omari-Mireku, emphasized the need for accountability, transparency, and ethical leadership to navigate these changes. He noted that Ghana is currently navigating a period of significant economic transformation and that strong governance practices are crucial for the country’s continued progress.

The forum featured esteemed speakers and panelists who shared valuable insights on governance and risk management. According to the recently published ‘2026 Risk in Focus’ report for Africa, Governance/corporate reporting is among the top 10 risks for Africa.

The IIA Ghana highlighted several initiatives of the Global IIA, including the development and adoption of Global Internal Audit Standards, the Quality Assessment and Improvement Programme, and the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) qualification.

Omari-Mireku commended the Internal Audit Agency and private sector organizations for adopting the Global Internal Audit Standards, which signals that Ghana’s governance, control, and fiscal oversight meet globally accepted benchmarks.

The forum aimed to deepen understanding and strengthen governance practices during significant technological advancement, organizational transformation, and economic reforms.
