Hon. Emilia Arthur Heads to 6th Ordinary Session of AU Specialised Technical Committee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Water and Environment.

The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hon. Emelia Arthur, has departed Ghana to participate in the 6th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Specialised Technical Committee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Water and Environment (STC–ARDWE), taking place from 21st to 24th October 2025 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Ministerial Session brings together Ministers responsible for agriculture, fisheries, aquaculture, rural development, water, and the environment from across AU Member States to review progress, provide policy direction, and endorse strategic documents that will guide the sustainable development of these critical sectors.
Hon. Arthur’s participation reflects Ghana’s continued commitment to the implementation of the Pan-African Policy Framework and Reform Strategy for Fisheries and Aquaculture (PFRS) and the strengthening of regional collaboration under the African Fisheries Reform Mechanism (AFRM).
The Minister will join her counterparts from other African Union Member States to deliberate on key strategic documents developed under the FishGov2 and Aquatic Biodiversity projects, as well as review progress on the implementation of previous STC recommendations. The discussions will also focus on enhancing coherence in national fisheries policies, promoting sustainable aquaculture, and advancing Africa’s blue economy agenda.
Ghana’s participation in this important forum underscores the Government’s strong commitment to sustainable fisheries management, aquaculture development, and regional cooperation to ensure that Africa’s fisheries and aquatic resources contribute effectively to food security, livelihoods, and economic transformation.
