Lampard and Swansea City chairman named in Queen’s Birthday Honours list
Chelsea legend Frank Lampard and Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins have been recognised on the Queen’s birthday honours list, reports the Daily Mirror.
Lampard has been awarded an OBE for his services to football. This comes after his final season in the Premier League before a move to MLS side New York City. The 36-year-old made 882 appearances and scoring 259 goals in English football, playing for four different clubs. He started off at West Ham, going on loan to the Swans at one point, before moving to Chelsea.
It would be at Stamford Bridge where he would make his name, winning the Champions League, three Premier Leagues, four FA Cups, two League Cups, and the Europa League. The midfielder ended his time in the top flight with Manchester City last season, making 38 appearances and netting eight times.
He said of the award: “I am delighted to receive this huge honour. I feel very fortunate to have had such a long and fulfilling career in football. This is an extremely proud moment for myself and my family.”
At the same time the Swans’ chairman Huw Jenkins has also been awarded an OBE. He has guided the Welsh side from the fourth tier of the English game to the Premier League since taking over with the backing of the Swansea City Supporters Trust in 2002.
