The conflict between Asanko & Manso Adubia has been there for a long time – John Kwame Jabari
Captain Rtd John Kwame Jabari National Security Coordinator of Ashanti Region gave accounts on the misconception between the people of Mpatuam and the Asanko Gold Mines company.
Speaking on Kessben Maakye show with Wofa Kofi Appiah in Kumasi, he mentioned that, the issue has been there for long and there have been several ways to solve it.
The regional minister and others intervened for the military to redraw back and aim for mediation to find a lasting solution.
He said it was reported that, a person was found dead beside the river but allegedly was shot which made some to suspect the soldiers involvement in this tragedy.
The people of Mpatuam became enraged and launched an attack on Asanko’s company.
Kwame Jabari stated,the assembly member for Aboabo Tetekaso went to intervene and prevent the people of Mpatuam from attacking the company, the soldiers fired a warning shot and allegedly the assembly member was shot.The residents of Mpatuam marched towards the company and set fire to its properties”
He said Independent invigilators have been sent to investigate the incident at Mpatuam meanwhile they have met with the local youth urging them to exercise patience while they conduct a thorough investigation”.
Kwame Jabari claimed it’s challenging to get everyone on the same page and that’s why it’s taking so long to address the issue”.
Kwame Jabari admits there is mediation team by the minister to go over to see how it should be resolved without any violence.
He raised that, the presence of the military are to protect the properties of the company and not to add up violence”. Currently the place is a little bit calm which is better than yesterday”.
