Minority Leader Afenyo-Markin Supports Volta Students Association with GHC105,000

Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, Member of Parliament for Effutu Constituency and Minority Leader in Parliament, has reaffirmed his commitment to expanding educational opportunities for Ghanaians. He presented GHC105,000 to the Volta Students Association of the University of Ghana, Legon, to support 33 students facing financial challenges.
A Boost to Academic Pursuits
The donation aims to cover the fees of these students, enabling them to focus on their academic pursuits without financial burdens. Afenyo-Markin emphasized that this initiative is part of his broader vision to inspire young people to pursue careers in critical fields such as medicine, education, engineering, law, and journalism. These professions, he believes, are essential for the nation’s development.
Reducing Financial Burden on Families
The Minority Leader highlighted that the intervention seeks to reduce the financial burden on families, especially those in rural communities. By providing these students with the necessary resources, he hopes to empower them to thrive academically and become responsible citizens who can contribute to national development.
Gratitude from Students
Xorvi Gideon, President of the Volta Students Association, expressed profound gratitude to Afenyo-Markin for his timely support. The students appreciate his commitment to their educational pursuits and pledge to utilize the opportunity to excel academically.
Afenyo-Markin’s Personal Touch
Afenyo-Markin drew inspiration from his own experiences, having faced financial hardships during his student days. He recounted how he relied on a bursary and worked night shifts at a care home in the UK to fund his education. His message to the students was one of resilience and determination, urging them not to give up in the face of challenges.
Investing in the Future
This gesture demonstrates Afenyo-Markin’s commitment to investing in the country’s human resource. By supporting these students, he aims to empower them to break barriers and build a stronger future for themselves and the nation.
