Affordability of electricity helps in the growth of industries and the economy – Benjamin Nsiah

Benjamin Nsiah, the Executive Director Of the Centre for Environmental Management and Sustainable Energy talked about the propose of the 225 % Increase in distribution service by the Electricity company of Ghana Limited.
Speaking on Kessben Maakye Show with Kojo Preko in Accra, he mentioned that, every service provider has its charges to take and the money the distributor takes from GRCO is the distribution of charge”.
He raised that, taking increment from GRCO affects people by adding up to the whole tariff and ends up as a bill depending on how the electricity is used”.
Benjamin Nsiah reiterated, “I keep on saying in our country there is no philosophy behind prices or taxation because, within the scope of sustainable development goals,the priority is to make sure electricity is affordable to elevate a lot of people from poverty”.
He said,the affordability of electricity helps in the growth of industries admitting that it becomes very competitive on the international market”.
Benjamin Nsiah raised the fact that, ECG claiming their system has reduced from 28 percent in 2022 to 27 % in 2024 due to their work done is never true noting, in 2023 the system laws jumped to 30%”.
He claimed that, the report shows they used depreciation and two ends periods from 2022 to 2024 and they claimed the cedis had depreciated by 74%”
He stressed that, they lied about that because, within the end periods, the cedi appreciated and depreciated and they got supported by the PRUC”.
Ben Nsiah suggested, If a company needs help,they must find their way to cut cost.He also highlighted in 2022,the month of August, Increment were made and after,they created over 60 accounts and PRUC couldn’t sanction them”.
