NPP Flagbearer Aspirant Engineer Kwabena Agyei Agyapong Submits Nomination Forms

Engineer Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has officially submitted his presidential nomination forms to contest for the party’s flagbearer position ahead of the 2028 general elections. This move marks a significant step in the flagbearership race, with Agyapong emphasizing his readiness to unite the party and lead it to victory.

Agyapong stressed his ability to restore unity and strengthen the party to its former glory. He also called on fellow aspirants to focus on substantive national issues rather than personal attacks and challenged his competitors to participate in a public debate to showcase their policy positions. Positioning himself as a fresh alternative for the party’s leadership, Agyapong highlighted that he remains untouched by the previous administration.

The NPP Presidential Elections Committee has scheduled the presidential primaries for January 31, 2026. The party has also expanded its voter register to include new categories of delegates, such as former executives, ministers, and external branch officials, with a registration deadline of September 19, 2025.

The Vice Chairman of the NPP Presidential Elections Committee, Mr. Abankwah Yeboah, congratulated Agyapong on his submission and urged him to conduct his campaign with decorum, avoiding personal attacks and name-calling. Agyapong’s nomination marks the beginning of a potentially competitive contest, with other notable aspirants expected to file their nominations in the coming days.
