BLACK WEDNESDAY IN GHANA: Omane Boamah, Murtala Mohammed, six others die in military helicopter crash

Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Minister of Defense, and Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, the Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, were killed in a sad military helicopter crash that occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6.
Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed, former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, and NDC Vice Chairman Samuel Sarpong are all reported killed in the crash.
Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala make up the crew.
High-ranking government officials were reportedly on a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 chopper headed to Obuasi when the plane vanished off radar.
After hearing the news, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, reportedly left the program to rush to the crash location while attending an anti-illegal mining event.
The Ghana Armed Forces acknowledged in a brief statement that attempts were being made to locate and evaluate the chopper wreckage after it lost touch on Wednesday morning shortly after takeoff. Authorities have not yet confirmed more facts, and the cause of the incident is yet unknown.
More than a year has passed since a military plane crashed near Bonsukrom in the Western Region on March 19, 2024, in a helicopter mishap. Luckily, no one was killed in that previous collision.
