“46% Unqualified”: Defense Minister Exposes Massive Recruitment Fraud, Promises Transparent Overhaul

In a bombshell revelation during the Ghana Defense Progress Report, Minister of Defense, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has uncovered widespread recruitment irregularities.
“When I assumed office as Minister for Defense, I instituted an inquiry into the enlistment of officers,” the Defense Minister stated, revealing that out of 452 Ghana Military Academy hopefuls, “210 out of 452 – 46% did not meet the eligibility test for the regular career course.”
He mentioned that, the investigation exposed a critical challenge in military recruitment.
“We must pay attention to the few collaborators within the Ghana Armed Forces,” the Minister emphasized, signalling a zero-tolerance approach to internal fraud.
Speaking today during the Government Accountability Series at the Presidency today, Dr. Omani Boamah stated that, the Armed Forces are now pivoting towards a more strategic recruitment model. Future enlistment will prioritize specific professional qualifications, with the Minister noting, “We will target specific skills like engineers and biochemists.”
As part of comprehensive reforms, the Minister disclosed that, the military is launching the National Service Emergency Response Readiness Program, designed to provide optional military training to 10,000 National Service Volunteers.
“The Ghana Armed Forces must be a force of excellence, integrity, opportunity and national integration,” the Minister declared, underscoring the commitment to rebuilding trust and professionalism in military recruitment.
