President Mahama Promises Infrastructure Development Overhaul for Ashanti Region

President of the Republic of Ghana H.E John Dramani Mahama during his “Thank you Tour” address in the Ashanti region unveiled an ambitious $10 billion infrastructure transformation plan, promising to revive neglected projects and accelerate regional development.

President Mahama underscored targeted key infrastructure challenges, the President committed to completing long-stalled projects including the Afari Military Hospital, Kwame Nkrumah University Medical Center, and the Kejetia Market Phase Two, Krofrom market, amongst others.

President Mahama mentioned that, the “Big Push” agenda aims to address years of economic stagnation and infrastructure decay.

He highlighted the economic recovery measures complement the infrastructure strategy. Stating that, the recent fiscal reforms have already shown results, with reduced inflation and currency appreciation creating a more stable business environment.

“The economy has responded well and significantly with a rapid reduction in inflation and a steep appreciation in our local currency the city against major international currencies, this has increased business confidence and made the business environment more predictable, and it has also made port charges and levies more affordable for our businesses.” President Mahama stated.

“The stable economy will help boost businesses in Ashanti and create more job opportunities for our young people as part of our drive to relieve the financial burden on ordinary Ghanaians.” He added.

A landmark project is the proposed Greater Kumasi Bypass, designed to redirect heavy truck traffic and decongest the city.

He further emphasized on the Accra-Kumasi Expressway, set to begin construction early next year, will reduce travel distance by 50 kilometers and enhance national connectivity.

“The people of Ashanti region deserve better,” the President declared, emphasizing the region’s economic potential despite years of neglect. The infrastructure plan includes runway extension at Kumasi International Airport and road reconstructions in Tepa, Manso, and Adansi areas.

Social relief initiatives include absorbing academic fees for first-year tertiary students and addressing environmental concerns through stricter mining regulations.

The address also celebrated the region’s political support, highlighting the election of seven parliamentary members and over 33% of presidential votes as a testament to national unity.

The comprehensive plan signals a new era of development for the Ashanti Region, promising to transform infrastructure, boost economic opportunities, and address long-standing community needs.
