Breaking: President Mahama Orders EOCO To Probe Illegal Mining Allegations Against Joseph Yammin and Yakubu Abanga.

The President, John Dramani Mahama has through the Attorney-General, Dominic Ayine ordered the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to commence investigations into allegations of improper conduct on the part Joseph Yamin and Yakubu Abanga, the National Organiser and 3rd Vice Chairperson of the NDC respectively.

In a release sighted by this outfit this evening and copied to EOCO, the President instructed that the investigations should cover all other named persons who are acting in contravention of the Mining Act, 2006.

Dated the 13th of July, 2025, the letter from the Attorney-General also charges EOCO to invite the Minerals Commission CEO to attend to the investigations and provide evidence and information about all activities regarding mining in the country.

Additionally, EOCO has been asked to probe all named persons as captured by media reports that surfaced on Monday, the 14th of July, 2025.

Background:
Over the weekend, Mr Joseph Yammin and Yakubu Abanga, National officers of the NDC were accused by a mining group for operating a parallel anti-galamsey taskforce.

The group in a press statement copied to the media said the parallel group were carrying out illegal activities anytime they visit mining sites.

Claims of extortion, manhandling and threats on miners were other issues the group also mentioned to be the modus operandi of the illegal taskforce team.

The Mining Group alleged that the activities of the parallel group was collapsing their businesses and threatening their livelihoods.

Denial:
Meanwhile, Mr Joseph Yammin and Yakubu Abanga speaking to this reporter denied any involvement in the operations of the parallel anti-galamsey taskforce.

Mr Yammin confessed that he has friends in the mining business but added that he had in no way dabbled in same or any illegal enterprise or whatsoever.

On the part of Yakubu Abanga, he told this reporter that he was a miner and had been engaged in the enterprise for more than a decade having concessions in Offinso, Ahafo Ano and Cote D’Ivoire.

However, he noted that he was engaged in legal mining having acquired all required certifications and licenses from the Minerals Commission.
