No fees No Stress Policy: About 140,000 students applied, 15,000 students so far received funds from the disbursement – Ismail Yaro, Students Loans Trust

The much-anticipated No Fees Stress Policy, a key education support initiative introduced under former President John Dramani Mahama, has officially begun disbursing funds to tertiary students across the country.
This was confirmed by Ismail Yaro, Head of Communications at the Ghana Students Loans Trust Fund, during an interview on Kessben FM.
According to Mr. Yaro, the program received an overwhelming response, with over 140,000 students applying for financial assistance under the policy. Out of that number, about 15,000 students have already received disbursements, marking the first wave of support under the initiative.
The No Fees Stress Policy was introduced as a solution to the growing concerns about financial barriers to tertiary education. It is designed to provide students with quick and hassle-free access to funds to cover tuition and related academic expenses, without the usual bureaucratic delays associated with traditional student loan systems.
Mr. Yaro explained that the system has been streamlined to ensure timely payment, and the fund has been working closely with educational institutions to verify student data for accurate disbursement.
The announcement has been welcomed by many students and parents, especially those from low-income backgrounds who have struggled to afford rising tuition costs. Several student leaders across the country have also expressed appreciation for the rollout, urging the Loans Trust to maintain transparency and speed in the remaining phases of disbursement.
