Over GHC100 million was spent on the National Day of Prayer by the NDC, I wish it rained yesterday – NPP communicator, Nana Agyei Perez

NPP communicator Nana Agyei Perez accused the NDC government of squandering more than GHC 100 million on yesterday’s National Day of Prayer held in Accra.

President John Dramani Mahama declared July 1 (Republic Day) an official National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving earlier this year, emphasizing religious unity across.

The Government organized a large-scale interfaith thanksgiving ceremony in Accra yesterday, drawing prominent clergy and political figures from across the religious spectrum.

Speaking on Kessben FM’s morning show, Nana Agyei Perez stated he had heard circulating claims that over GHC 100 million was spent organizing the prayer event.

He characterized this as “wasteful expenditure,” suggesting the figure is controversial given current economic challenges.

The National Cathedral scandal earlier this year drew similar allegations of overspending, with investigations prompted over substantial public funds.

To date, however, no official breakdown of the National Day of Prayer’s actual cost has been released by the government.

If Nana Perez’s claim is accurate, the GHC 100 million tab for a one-day religious event would likely fuel political backlash and calls for transparency.

Conversely, if the figure is exaggerated or unfounded, it could be a political strategy aimed at undermining the NDC’s credibility
