EHCM Calls on DVLA to Halt Draconian Levies and Engage Stakeholders

The Executive Secretary of the Election Has Consequences Movement (EHCM), Comrade Isaac Batun, popularly known as The Grassroots CEO, is calling on the CEO of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to immediately call the Authority’s Compliance and Enforcement Unit to order and suspend the imposition of what he describes as draconian levies on innocent Ghanaian drivers.

Comrade Batun describes the move as unfair, ill-timed, and lacking proper stakeholder engagement. He urges the DVLA leadership to tread cautiously and engage the driving public—both private and commercial—before rolling out such policies that directly impact their livelihoods.

*On the way Forward*,
The Grassroots CEO proposes that the DVLA CEO immediately convene a national stakeholder dialogue involving drivers’ unions, transport operators, civil society, and relevant ministries. This engagement must be backed by a nationwide public awareness campaign through television, radio, social media, and community outreach programs.

He further calls on the DVLA to extend the implementation timeline of any new policy until such education and consultations have been thoroughly conducted. Comrade Batun strongly believes that this inclusive approach will lead to greater understanding and voluntary compliance by Ghanaian drivers.

In conclusion, he states, “Policies affecting the lives of ordinary citizens must be participatory and empathetic. Dialogue, not enforcement, should lead the way.”
