“If you don’t find your purpose in life, wrong comparison will kill you” – Rev Vincent Kankam (Sofo Kankam)

Rev Vincent Kankam Speaking with clarity, emphasized that purpose is not just a philosophical idea but a practical anchor for life.

According to him, many people today are drifting,  scrolling through curated lives on social media, chasing validation, and measuring their worth by the achievements of others. This endless comparison, he warned, becomes toxic without the grounding presence of a personal mission or purpose.

“When you don’t know why you are here, you’ll envy why others are,” Rev Kankam said during the segment. “And in that state, you start to define success by what it looks like for someone else, not by what it’s meant to be for you.”

Rev Kankam’s statement taps into a growing mental health concern. Numerous studies have shown how excessive comparison particularly via social media leads to anxiety, depression, and feelings of inadequacy. Without a clear sense of direction, people often find themselves living reactively, always trying to “catch up” to others.

Sofo Kankam stressed that comparison isn’t always wrong,  it can inspire growth when done in a healthy context , but when it stems from purposelessness, it becomes destructive. “Purpose filters what matters,” he said. “When you know where you’re going, you don’t compete with someone going in a different direction.”

Rev Kankam urged listeners to seek clarity through prayer, reflection, and self-awareness. He noted that every individual is uniquely designed with gifts and a calling, and finding that calling brings freedom from the pressure to conform or compete unnecessarily.
