Nkwatia Presbyterian SHS Launches 60th Anniversary Celebration

Nkwatia Presbyterian Senior High School (Nkwasco) today, May 22nd, 2025, launched its 60th-anniversary celebration, marking six decades of dedication to transformative education. The event featured Dr. Isaac Osei Koranteng, a proud old student of the school, as the guest speaker.

In his speech, Dr. Koranteng expressed deep gratitude to the institution for instilling in him values that have guided his life: Character, Efficiency, and Service. He emphasized that these values are not just aspirational phrases but the pillars upon which the institution was built.

The theme for the anniversary, “60 Years of Transformative Education: Shaping the Future through Character Building; A Shared Responsibility of Stakeholders,” resonated deeply with Dr. Koranteng. He stressed that education must go beyond academic excellence and focus on building character, which is a collective responsibility of teachers, parents, alumni, policymakers, and community leaders.

Dr. Koranteng urged the current students to uphold the standard of excellence, take their studies seriously, and let their character shine brighter. He also encouraged teachers to continue teaching not just subjects but lives, and parents to reinforce the values being taught in school.

The guest speaker called on fellow alumni to give back to the school through mentorship, time, support, and opportunities. He also urged government and policymakers to invest in education, focusing on teacher training, curriculum reforms, and values-based learning.

As the school embarks on this new chapter, Dr. Koranteng pledged to renew the commitment to education that transforms, uplifts, and empowers. He concluded by saying, “Let the next 60 years be even greater – a future shaped by all of us, together.”

In her welcome remarks, Mrs. Gloria Baafi, Headmistress of Nkwatia Presbyterian Senior High School, warmly welcomed guests to the ceremony, emphasizing that the celebration was not just a one-day event, but a year-long reflection and celebration of the institution’s achievements. She highlighted the school’s growth into a beacon of academic excellence and moral discipline, nurturing students to become responsible and resilient citizens.

A Shared Responsibility

The theme for the milestone, “60 Years of Transformative Education: Shaping the Future through Character,” emphasizes the importance of collective commitment to the institution’s mission. Mrs. Baafi noted that building character and shaping the future cannot rest on the shoulders of the school alone. “It requires the collaborative efforts of every stakeholder,” she said. “Teachers must be models of integrity and professionalism, parents must reinforce discipline and values at home, and governments and policymakers must provide the needed resources and infrastructure.”

A Call to Action

The launch of the 60th anniversary celebration is a call to action for all stakeholders to appreciate the institution’s achievements, assess its responsibilities, and renew their collective commitment to its mission. As the school embarks on this year-long celebration, it is expected to reflect on its past, assess its present, and chart a course for an even brighter future.

The ceremony marked the beginning of a series of events and activities that will take place throughout the year, showcasing the institution’s commitment to transformative education and character building. As Nkwatia Presbyterian Senior High School celebrates this major milestone, it reaffirms its dedication to shaping the future of its students and contributing to the development of society.
