Story By Michael Ofosu-Afriyie, Kumasi.

The current Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Prof Otchere Addai-Mensah would by next week round up his activities at the premier health facility.

The decision to cease work and to hand over to his successor was taken after a discussion with the Health Minister, Hon Kwabena Mintah Akandoh today.

A source who told this reporter just after the meeting today, said the Minister conveyed the government’s appreciation to the outgoing CEO for his uncommon commitment and sense of responsibility to ensuring KATH became a modern health facility.

The Minister, the source added on a personal note also thanked Prof Addai-Mensah for ensuring he was taken good care of when he was involved in a near fatal accident in 2024.

Reaction:
In a brief interview with this reporter, Prof Addai-Mensah confirmed the news.

He said government has found a replacement for him.

He however noted that the meeting with the Health Minister was very cordial and fruitful.

Prof Addai-Mensah thanked the former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the NPP government for offering him the opportunity to serve as CEO for two terms.

He also wished the incoming CEO very well as he assumes office and urged the management at KATH to offer him same or higher level of cooperation to ensure KATH remains the choicest Hospital for clients, visitors and customers.

Background:
Prof Addai-Mensah assumed office as CEO of KATH in November 2022.

With two years still left on his contract, the outgoing CEO would be leaving office having spearheaded the most famous renovation project code named Hekap, an initiative to make KATH a modern premier health facility.

Starting a wide range of reforms including staff and management orientation, Prof Addai-Mensah became a household name with no time.

From two dialysis machines in 2022, Prof Addai-Mensah through his industry and influence would be leaving behind about 20 dialysis machines for the treatment of renal issues aside many other massive retooling efforts and the construction of a modern pharmaceutical block.
