Parliament approves GH₵65,899,456 for ministry of sports and recreation

The Parliament of Ghana has approved the allocation of GH₵65,899,456 for the services of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation for the year ending 31 December 2025.
The budget approved on Thursday (27 March) was followed by reactions from MPs on the floor of the house- which raised concerns over the lack of allocation of the funds to maintain sports infrastructure in the country. According to the Sports and Recreation Minister, the Accra Sports Stadium will shut its gates for a much-needed renovation after Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad.
Addressing this issue on the floor of Ghana’s Parliament, Dominic Nitiwul called for more money to be allocated to the Ministry.
“I think leadership should take up this matter and find a way of varying some money somewhere and put it here [undertaking sports infrastructure].
“We cannot increase the budget but we can vary, we can re-allocate so by the time we are going to do the appropriation, we should find some money and make sure that this [Sports] Ministry has some capital expenditure to be able to undertake all the projects they want to take. It’s a very important Ministry” Nitiwul said.
He added: “The Sports Minister should be supported. I want to see the Sports Minister get some capital expenditure and can spend.
“We cannot leave it to the discretion of the Finance Minister or the President [of Ghana] to say we will do it but it should be there so that he knows that it is there and plans towards [using] it.”
