Move to remove the Chief Justice without any serious grounds is a danger to the nation — Ohene Gyan Esq

Experienced lawyer, Ohene Gyan, has raised serious concerns over the recent move initiated by former President John Dramani Mahama to remove the current Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo.
Ohene Gyan, a respected legal expert, has warned that such actions without substantial and legitimate grounds pose a grave danger to the nation’s judiciary and overall democratic process. He emphasized that the politicization of judicial appointments and removals undermines the independence of the judiciary, which is a cornerstone of any democratic society.
Speaking with Wofa Kofi Appiah on Kessben FM, Lawyer Ohene Gyan cautioned that any attempt to remove Chief Justice Torkornoo without concrete, serious, and well-founded reasons could lead to severe consequences for the country. He highlighted that political interference in the judiciary would not only diminish the credibility of the judicial system but also erode public trust in its impartiality.
Gyan’s remarks are in response to recent reports that President Mahama has taken steps to initiate the process for the removal of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. The Chief Justice was appointed by former President Nana Akufo-Addo
Ohene Gyan expressed concern that the timing of this move could be politically motivated rather than based on any substantiated legal grounds.
In his view, allowing political considerations to influence such a significant constitutional office would be a step backward for the country’s democratic institutions.
