I can’t predict that Kotoko can win the league because you can’t trust the current Kotoko – Ex-Black Stars and Kotoko defender, Emmanuel Ampiah

Emmanuel Ampiah, a former defender for Asante Kotoko and the Black Stars, has expressed his reservations about the current Kotoko team’s ability to win the Ghana Premier League title this season. The experienced footballer, who was a key figure in Kotoko’s dominant teams of the past, shared his thoughts during a recent interview, saying that, unlike during his playing days, he can’t confidently predict that the current Kotoko squad can clinch the league crown.

Emmanuel Ampiah, a former Kotoko stalwart, did not mince words when discussing the current state of the team. He emphasized that he had little faith in Kotoko’s ability to secure the league title this season, noting that the current squad lacks the consistency and resilience that was once a hallmark of the club.

“You can’t trust the current Kotoko,” Ampiah stated in an interview with Tony Muntana on Kessben TV. “During our time, if Kotoko went on top of the league, no team could overtake us. We had a certain mentality, a belief that once we were in front, we would stay there until the end. But right now, I can’t say the same thing about the current team.”

During Ampiah’s playing career, Kotoko was a dominant force in Ghanaian football, consistently securing league titles and competing at a high level in Africa. The team’s combination of tactical discipline, individual talent, and unshakable belief meant that once they were on top, they rarely faltered. Kotoko’s unrelenting pursuit of victory made them a force to be reckoned with, both domestically and on the continental stage.

While Kotoko’s past legacy remains a source of pride, Ampiah’s assessment of the current team is far less optimistic. In recent seasons, the Porcupine Warriors have faced numerous challenges, including inconsistent performances, fluctuating form, and an inability to maintain dominance over the course of the league campaign.

“The current Kotoko team is not the same as the one we had,” Ampiah pointed out. “There are too many inconsistencies. One week they win, the next they lose or draw. That wasn’t the case with us. We knew what it took to win, and we did it consistently.”

Despite currently leading the Ghana Premier League and having talented players on the roster, the current squad has often struggled to match the high standards set by their predecessors. Fans have become increasingly frustrated by the lack of consistency and leadership on the pitch, as the team has failed to replicate the same level of dominance seen in the past.
