If water is kept in a bottle for a longer period, it gets scented. IGP Dampare must leave – security expert, Dr Sadiq Adutwum

Dr. Sadiq Adutwum, a renowned security expert, has expressed concerns about the leadership of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, urging for his replacement. Adutwum, drawing on an analogy of water kept in a bottle for an extended period, likened the situation to the IGP’s leadership, suggesting that the longer someone remains in power, the more likely it is that their actions, decisions, and even their effectiveness, will begin to “scent” or deteriorate.
Speaking on Kessben FM’s Maakye with Wofa Kofi Appiah, Dr. Adutwum emphasized the importance of leadership renewal, arguing that even in the most effective systems, leadership can become stagnant if not periodically refreshed. He likened the IGP’s tenure to water in a bottle that, when left too long, begins to lose its freshness and quality. According to Dr. Adutwum, the longer Dr. Dampare remains in office, the more ineffective he will become in executing his duties, thus affecting the overall performance of the police service.
“Just like water that is kept in a bottle for too long becomes scented and less refreshing, leadership can stagnate if it is not constantly refreshed.,” Adutwum stated.
The security expert believes that a change in leadership could reinvigorate the police service, bringing in fresh approaches to handling crime, boosting morale among the police officers, and restoring confidence within the public. According to him, this renewal is essential in the face of evolving security threats, including organized crime, cyber threats, and terrorism, which require innovative thinking and efficient leadership.
