Aowin Traditional Council performs rituals to banish their Member of Parliament Oscar Ofori Larbi

The Western North Region’s Aowin Traditional Council has carried out rituals to prevent MP Oscar Ofori Larbi from entering their territory.

The council, led by Nana Opong Payin III, the chief of Omanpe, killed a sheep and poured a libation, pleading with the gods of Aowin to accept their sacrifice and punish Mr. Larbi for disobeying the prohibition.

The council claims that by allegedly spreading untrue rumors against the paramount chief and a few divisional chiefs in the Aowin Traditional Area, the MP has denigrated them.

Although they accepted that Mr. Larbi was chosen to represent the constituents, they maintained that they could no longer cooperate with him because of his persistent disrespect. He is therefore prohibited from entering any community under their control.

The traditional council made it clear that they have no problems with the administration or the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

However, they emphasized that the Regional Minister or the unnamed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) should be in charge of overseeing any government-led development initiatives.

There have been calls for President John Mahama to step in, despite the MP’s vehement denial of the accusations and insistence that he has been actively fighting illegal mining in the region.
