Obuasi Mine Tragedy: Presiding Member Urges Calm and Unity

The recent killings of illegal miners who invaded the Cote d’or concession of AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine has been a major talking point in the country with the President of the Republic of Ghana His Excellency John Mahama calling for investigations into the matter.

The latest to add his voice to the incident is Honourable James Adaboh, the presiding member of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly.

While backing the President’s call for investigations into the matter, he has called for cool heads and calmness.

He said the issue was regrettable, extending his commiserations to the braved family and wished the injured family a speedy recovery.

He said there was the need to maintain the existing peace in Obuasi, hence, appealed to the youth not to do anything to mar the peace.

Honourable Adabor bemoaned the recent incidence of party supporters forcibly seizing public assets.

He said the situation when not curtailed has the potential of disrupting peaceful coexistence. He advocated for the need to follow due process to acquire state assets in the event of a change of government.

The presiding member also called for a dialogue between stakeholders in Obuasi, especially the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, the Obuasi East Municipal Assembly and AngloGold Ashanti to bring a lasting solution to the matter.
