New Patriotic Party Condemns NDC Violence, Calls on President Mahama to Act

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has strongly condemned the recent wave of violence, vandalism, and lawlessness perpetrated by supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). In a statement released today, the NPP called on President John Dramani Mahama to demonstrate leadership and publicly condemn these actions.

The NPP described the acts as “reckless and barbaric,” creating unnecessary tension in the country. They urged the President and his government to take immediate steps to restore order and sanity, ensuring the safety of all Ghanaians.

The party also called on the security agencies, particularly the Inspector General of Police (IGP), to exhibit professionalism and impartiality in addressing these acts of lawlessness. They emphasized that the security services have a constitutional duty to protect all citizens and uphold the rule of law.

This is not the first time the NPP has spoken out against NDC violence. Previously, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia had called on President-elect Mahama to control his supporters amid post-election violence. The NDC has also condemned the acts of vandalism and lawlessness, urging their supporters to celebrate responsibly.

The NPP’s statement comes amid reports of violent incidents, including the storming of collation centers, vandalism of state properties, and intimidation of NPP members and sympathizers. The party emphasized that Ghana has always been a beacon of peace and democracy, and such conduct threatens to erode the very foundations of democracy.

As the country transitions into a new administration, the NPP urged Ghanaians to stand up and condemn the NDC’s orchestrated violence. They called on President Mahama to take immediate steps to exhibit leadership and protect the peace, stability, and respect for the rule of law.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 11, 2025

NEW PATRIOTIC PARTY CONDEMNS THE ACTS OF VIOLENCE AND LAWLESSNESS BY THE NDC AND CALLS ON PRESIDENT JOHN MAHAMA TO DEMONSTRATE TRUE LEADERSHIP IN CALLING HIS MARAUDING PARTY MEMBERS TO ORDER.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) unequivocally condemns the recent wave of vandalism, hooliganism, abuse of power, intimidation, violence, and assaults perpetrated by elements within the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

These reckless and barbaric acts, which are creating unnecessary tension in the country, must not go unchecked.

We call on the President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, and his government to demonstrate true leadership by publicly condemning these shameful actions and taking the necessary steps to restore order and sanity in our dear country.

Furthermore, we urge the public, traditional authorities, religious leaders, and the diplomatic community to join us in denouncing these acts of violence and lawlessness.

Ghana has always been a beacon of peace and democracy, and such conduct threatens to erode the very foundations of our democracy.

We also call on the security agencies, particularly the Inspector General of Police (IGP), to exhibit professionalism and impartiality in addressing these acts of lawlessness. The security services have a constitutional duty to protect all citizens and uphold the rule of law.

We expect swift and decisive action to restore order and ensure the safety of all Ghanaians, including public servants who are forcibly being ejected from their offices and residences by marauding NDC thugs without any justification.

The insecurity, unlawful evictions, violent invasions of private homes and offices, car seizures, and the general atmosphere of fear and instability are not healthy for our cherished democracy.

As a nation, we cannot allow a transitional government to plunge the country into chaos. Ghanaians must stand up and unequivocally condemn the NDC’s orchestrated violence.

We urge President Mahama to take immediate steps to exhibit leadership to protect the peace, stability, and respect for the rule of law.

We will continue to hold him and his government responsible and accountable until they restore these values.

Signed

Justin Kodua Frimpong

General Secretary
