“Unlocking Potential: Adansi Dev’t Association & Rotary Club of Accra Kanda Equip Women with Life-Changing Skills

The Adansi Development Association in partnership with the Rotary Club of Accra Kanda trains more than 500 women in five towns in the Adansi enclave with vocational skills for self-sustaining.

The 4-day free training program took place at Kwame Adukrom near New Edubiase, Akrofuom, Dompoase, Bodwesango and Kwapia.

The women were trained on how to make washing powder, liquid soap, bleach, antiseptic, brown sugar, fascinators and coded slippers.

According to the President of the Adansi Development Association Madam Henrietta Oppong, the training was aimed at alleviating poverty through empowering youth and women, who would be equipped with the skills to become potential entrepreneurs and help curb the unemployment situation in Adansi.

She mentioned that such income-generating activities would provide opportunities for youth and women.

She expressed hope that the beneficiaries would utilize the acquired knowledge effectively.
As an annual tradition, the Adansi Development Association is dedicated to organizing programs aimed at developing and empowering communities in the Adansi region.

” As natives of Adansi, we have been mobilizing resources to support programs and initiatives in our communities every year.

“Last year, we organized a free health screening which was hugely successful. This motivated us to come back with this vocational training this year”, she said.

Madam Oppong further appealed to indigenes of Adansi across the globe to join the association in order to give back to society.

Monitoring

The President further revealed that, in their attempt to evaluate the impact of the training program, a monitoring team will be sent to assess its effectiveness.

This she said will enable them to roll out further training programs.

She extended the association’s gratitude to their sponsors- Liquid Lye Ltd, Hentina Limited, Nimabrok Ltd and Sama foundation for making this project a success.

Rotarian Samuel Nissi Odame of the Rotary Club of Accra Kanda said it was a great opportunity to expand its commitment to making an impact in these communities through the project and would also like to commend all participants for availing themselves to be trained.

Economic independence

  Speaking to the media after the training program at Akrofuom, Francisca Osei Tutu, a beneficiary, praised the organizers of the program for their initiative and encouraged women to take advantage of such empowerment programs to develop their skills and achieve economic independence.

She said women play significant roles in the management of a home and hence should be engaged in economic activities in order to contribute meaningfully.
” We cannot leave everything to the men. Women must also contribute their quota to the upkeep of the home and the children. We cannot do so when we are not employed so I urge my fellow women to embrace these skills training programs”.

Way forward

Azariah Martey Korley, a facilitator of the training program commended the youth and women for their commitment towards the training program. He said vocational skills are the way to go in having a self-sustaining economy.

He asked the government to invest more in skills acquisition and development of entrepreneurial skills.

The CEO of LiquidLye Ltd, Mr Michael Thompson, expressed his excitement about the project’s success and emphasized the importance of safety measures when using the chemicals for production. He also introduced LiquidLye Ltd agents in the various communities to participants.
