Give our stadium to us to manage before you destroy it – Tarkwa MCE to NSA

After barely one month, the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipal Assembly’s Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Benjamin Kessie, stated that they would be ending their agreement with the National Sports Authority (NSA) to run the TnA Stadium.

August 2024 saw the National Sports Authority (NSA) take over management of the recently constructed TnA Stadium, which was made possible by funding from the Goldfields Foundation. The Tarkwa Municipal Assembly also provided support for the NSA’s efforts.

At a news conference in Tarkwa on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, Hon. Kessie revealed that the Municipal Assembly had chosen to terminate their agreement with the National Sports Authority due to inadequate building maintenance.

In addition, Hon. Kessie said that a temporary management committee headed by Mr. James Essilfie has been established to oversee the stadium for a month while the Municipal Assembly considers its options for facility administration.

The $16.2 million TnA Stadium construction project was finished in June of this year, having started four years earlier.

Tarkwa Nsuaem and the surrounding area are home to only one football team, Medeama SC of the Ghana Premier League.

“NSA cannot manage the stadium. They don’t have the track record to manage the stadium. Tell me one stadium the NSA has managed properly in this country.

They spoiled the one at Takoradi and they want to come and spoil this one as well. We won’t allow that. One month after handing the stadium to them, washrooms are not functioning, It has to take Moses Parker for the pitch to be watered, etc. We can manage the stadium, they should give to us to manage it” he said.
