NDC Ashanti regional minister and deputy sacked

President John Dramani Mahama has withdrawn the appointment of Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Samuel K. Sarpong, and his deputy, Joseph Yammin with immediate effect.
In a statement signed by Communications Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister Eric Opoku will act as Ashanti Regional Minister until a substantive minister is appointed.
Reasons for this action by the President have not yet been given, but the sacking is believed to be due to recent scuffles at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party office in Kumasi.
The NDC has recently launched a campaign to amass 1 million votes in the Ashanti region a stronghold of the New Patriotic party (NPP).
