MY FRIENDS IN THE RADIO SPACE! DAB PLUS and OUR SILENCE! Another CLS?
I am sure most people have heard on traditional and digital media spaces publicity on the DAB+ receivers. First of all, after nearly a year, how many of us have bought the device? Where are the devices being sold? What is the need?
With my child’s brain, I know that In this day and age, the world is in the palm of our hands, who buys a radio set?
Now the selling preposition is “you can listen to your favourite radio station wherever you are in Accra and Kumasi for a start…
Question: Without this device, are we not already able to monitor any radio station on this planet earth? A technology dating as far back as 1990?
Even morden cars do not have this so why the need?
Why have we kept quiet? Have we been scammed again?
The NCA boss said this at the launch ““DAB provides good quality audio, supports the provision of value-added services and spectrum efficiency. For example in this trial, up to 18 existing FM stations in Accra and Kumasi will share one frequency channel out of the DFH boundary which is 174 to 230 megahertz and a transmitter in Kumasi and Accra. With the concerns raised about restrictions on authorised coverage areas for FM stations, we will be testing the possibility of extending coverage. Accordingly, in this trial, stations in Accra will extend their coverage to Kumasi and vice versa.”
Please educate some of us… we are curious to know
It obviously has its pros…. But is this any innovation that must eat our meager resources? What’s the budget spend on this so far?
