Speaker’s Bias Sparks Outrage in Western North Region

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Western North Region has expressed outrage and disappointment over the Speaker of Parliament’s recent actions, which have been deemed a blatant display of disrespect towards the people of the region.

During yesterday’s parliamentary session, the Speaker ordered the Marshal to forcibly remove Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, Member of Parliament for Sefwi Wiawso Constituency, without justifiable cause. This unprecedented move has sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling it a biased and disrespectful act.

In a statement released today, the NPP in the Western North Region condemned the Speaker’s actions, citing a troubling lack of impartiality and selective enforcement of parliamentary discipline. The party pointed out that Hon. Muntaka Mubarak, MP for Asawase in the Ashanti Region, was not subjected to similar disciplinary measures despite his gross display of disrespect towards the Speaker.

The NPP has called on the Speaker to uphold the principles of fairness and equality, ceasing partisan behavior that threatens the unity and integrity of Parliament. The party has also urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to reflect on its actions and attitudes towards the people of the Western North Region, warning that continued disrespect will deepen the divide and foster resentment.

The incident has been widely seen as an insult to the constituents of Sefwi Wiawso and the entire Western North Region, highlighting the NDC’s disregard and disdain for the people. The NPP has reaffirmed its commitment to defending the dignity and rights of its constituents, vowing to stand united against any form of discrimination or bias.

As tensions rise, the Western North Region remains united in its call for fairness, equality, and respect from the Speaker and the NDC. The incident has sparked a wider conversation about parliamentary impartiality and the need for inclusive representation.

Press Release

STATEMENT CONDEMNING SPEAKER’S BIAS AND DISRESPECT TOWARDS THE PEOPLE OF SEFWI WIAWSO CONSTITUENCY AND WESTERN NORTH REGION

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Western North Region expresses its profound disappointment and dismay at the recent conduct of the Speaker of Parliament. Yesterday, on the floor of Parliament, the Speaker ordered the Marshal of Parliament to forcibly remove Dr. Kwaku Afriyie, the Member of Parliament for Sefwi Wiawso Constituency. This unprecedented action was taken without justifiable cause and stands as a blatant act of disrespect towards the people of the Western North Region.

In stark contrast, the Speaker chose not to extend similar disciplinary measures to Hon. Muntaka Mubarak, the Member of Parliament for Asawase in the Ashanti Region, despite his gross and unparalleled display of disrespect towards the Speaker. Such selective enforcement of parliamentary discipline reveals a troubling bias and a lack of impartiality expected from the office of the Speaker.

The NPP in the Western North Region condemns in the strongest terms this biased and disrespectful treatment meted out to Dr. Kwaku Afriyie. This incident is not just an affront to Dr. Afriyie but an insult to all the constituents of Sefwi Wiawso and the entire Western North Region. It speaks volumes about the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) disregard and disdain for our people.

We call on the Speaker to uphold the principles of fairness and equality that his office demands and to cease this partisan behavior that threatens the unity and integrity of our Parliament. Furthermore, we urge the NDC to reflect on its actions and attitudes towards the people of the Western North Region. Any continued disrespect will only deepen the divide and foster resentment among our constituents.

The NPP remains committed to defending the dignity and rights of our people. We stand united against any form of discrimination or bias and will not tolerate any actions that undermine the respect and representation our region deserves.

Thank you
